Esther Sternberg is an immunologist and research director at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She was formerly at the National Institutes of Health. Her books include Healing Spaces: The Science of Place and Well Being and The Balance Within: The Science Connecting Health & Emotions.

In her  research, she explores the question of how physical spaces can create stress and make us sick, or nurture healing.

In a conversation with On Being’s Krista Tippett, Ms. Sternberg delves into her research and the creation of groundbreaking new disciplines like neuroimmunology and environmental psychology.
